چکیده

The method of moments in the Hankel transform domain is applied to the determination of the fields scattered by a conducting circular plate buried in a lossy dispersive half-space when the plate is illuminated by a plane wave. The scattered fields obtained in the frequency domain are used to model the time-domain short-pulse scattering via the inverse fast Fourier transform. The authors show that the choice of adequate basis functions in the approximation of the current density induced on the plate makes it possible to obtain very accurate results for the scattered fields while using low computer memory requirements and short CPU times. This implies that the algorithm developed for the particular problem treated in this paper provides a good benchmark for the validation of any other numerical algorithms dealing with the analysis of the scattering from buried conducting objects with more complex geometry.

Wide-Band Electromagnetic Scattering from a Dielectric BOR Buried in a Layered Lossy Dispersive Medium

A method of moments (MoM) analysis is developed for electromagnetic scattering from a dielectric body of revolution (BOR) embedded in a layered medium (the half-space problem constituting a special case). The layered-medium parameters can be lossy and dispersive, of interest for simulating soil. To make such an analysis tractable for the wide-band (short-pulse) applications of interest here, we...

Short-pulse electromagnetic scattering from arbitrarily oriented subsurface ordnance

A rigorous method-of-moments (MoM) analysis is used to model wide-band scattering from general three-dimensional perfectly conducting objects buried in a lossy layered medium. Here, we focus on ordnance buried in a half space (soil). The time-domain fields scattered from a tilted antitank mine are examined in detail as a function of polarization and observation position.

Electromagnetic Scattering from a Perfect Electromagnetic Conductor Cylinder Buried in a Dielectric Half-space

An analytical solution is presented for the electromagnetic scattering from a perfect electromagnetic conducting circular cylinder, embedded in the dielectric half-space. The solution utilizes the spectral (plane wave) representations of the fields and accounts for all the multiple interactions between the buried circular cylinder and the dielectric interface separating the two half spaces.

A Cwa-based Detection Procedure of a Perfectly-conducting Cylinder Buried in a Dielectric Half-space

The electromagnetic scattering problem of a short-pulse plane wave by a perfectly-conducting circular cylinder, buried in a dielectric half-space, is solved by means of a cylindrical-wave approach (CWA). The incident plane wave may have a rather general shape in the time domain. The technique is applicable for arbitrary polarization, for any cylinder size and burial depth, and it gives results ...

Fast Multipole Method for Scattering from an Arbitrary PEC Target Above or Buried in a Lossy Half Space

The fast multipole method (FMM) was originally developed for perfect electric conductors (PECs) in free space, through exploitation of spectral properties of the free-space Green’s function. In the work reported here, the FMM is modified, for scattering from an arbitrary three-dimensional (3-D) PEC target above or buried in a lossy half space. The “near” terms in the FMM are handled via the ori...
